Class System 2.0 - What a Weekend

A Fine Tuesday to You All!

This weekend was a fantastic weekend for me in terms of creating and updating Illevar. Many things finally clicked into place and I think I had a big enough breakthrough with the Class System.

I decided to scrap my original idea for starting classes that would "level up" into new ones and just decided to use the Advanced classes as those seemed more fun to the few people I shared the ideas with.

We'll be taking a look at some ideas and hopefully people will chime in with their two-cents on them, but this new direction has me really excited. As always you can check these out more on my Milanote.

Acolyte

The acolyte class is Illevar’s version of a cleric/priest and warlock/witch. Acolytes practice Rune magic to cast their spells. These runes are carefully shaped aether, or magical energy, that can cure disease or inflict devastating curses.

Acolytes spend years training at specialized academies and often work as medics for the military or as town doctors. Some acolytes, on the other hand, practice deadly and horrible hexes in secret.

Acolyte adventurers may set out to become skilled physicians, powerful warlocks, or perhaps just seek to find some of the hidden rune magic lost to time.

Craftsman

The craftsman class is Illevar’s apothecary/alchemist and artificer. Craftsmen work tirelessly to improve upon their trades and to perfect some art. They wield powerful knowledge over potions and other crafted items; fighting enemies with their trusty multi-wrenches and potions bags.

Craftsmen are able to by-pass the check system needed to see if a bomb or poisoned bottle effect occurs in combat. They can upgrade potions and tonics, pick locks, use tech, and more!

Craftsmen adventurers may seek out a new settlement to set up shop in, become a terror to the locals, or seek out lost technology from the Age of Gods.

Elementalist

The elementalist class is Illevar’s version of wizard/sorcerer/druid. They shape the aether around them into different elements to combat their foes and overcome obstacles. Some specialize in a particular element, while others choose a more diverse path.

Elementalists are able to recover AP on critical hits. Each element they wield has specific abilities that stack well with themselves or others.

Elementalist adventurers may set out to better their skills, seek worthy opponents to test their might against, or perhaps uncover the secrets of ancient elementalists and the terrible power they are proclaimed to have wielded.

Gambler

The gambler class is Illevar’s rogue, wild magic user. They live not for fortune, but for the thrill of the risks they take to use their powers. Come try your luck and maybe, just maybe, the Goddess of Luck will smile upon you.

Gamblers have a variety of abilities, but each ability is based on their luck. Sometimes they may deal extra damage or charm a local, other times they may explode or suffer a status effect themselves. They have a special ability called “Lucky 7s” which triggers anytime they roll a 7 on an attack. Scaling up from a normal attack to a one-hit KO.

Gambler adventurers are there for the heck of it. They crave the thrills of beating a well laid trap or dungeon puzzle. The reward is not finding the treasure, but the fun along the way. Take up your throwing cards and roll the dice.

Guardian

The guardian class is our version of a Paladin or Knight. Guardians are protectors of the poor, the downtrodden, the fabulously wealthy, and more. They are hardy characters that can take more than a few hits to fall.

Guardians are defensive, physical characters. They have natural built in defense bonuses and use their abilities to protect their comrades.

Guardians sometimes set out following their patrons, or to protect a village under siege, or to keep a treasure safe from would-be-thieves.

Mercenary

The mercenary class is Illevar’s Barbarian or main attacking class. They live for fights and glory. They are not afraid to get their hands dirty and losing HP is just half the fun.

Mercenaries deal extra damage once they reach 50% hp and can use HP instead of AP for some of their abilities. They are powerful physical combatants wielding their weapons with ease.

Mercenaries set out on adventures for a myriad of reasons, but usually just for wealth, fame, or excessive violence. Manage your HP well and become unstoppable.

Mobster?

The mobster class is Illevar’s rogue class mixed with a bit of magic. Mobsters don’t just want wealth: they need it! Mobsters use wealth to power up their attacks and abilities. These brass knuckle and gun-toting priests of the golden coin can pick locks, smooth talk npcs, and rough up those that need it.

Mobsters have the Payday class feature which lets them offer up their wealth to power up their abilities. Turn the Midas Touch into the Midas Bludgeon and let them have it.

Mobsters set out for wealth mostly. Whether to increase their standings in the world or to repay a debt, fortune calls them into the world. They can find special relics that allow them to have permanent money to burn on their abilities, sadly they are rarely taken at stores.

Still working on the name for this class, but I love the idea of a class that actively seeks out fortune just to use for magic. Welcome to any and all suggestions.

That's all for this week!
