Illevar 1 - Basic Plot Points.

 Magical Tuesday to you all!

Today we'll take a look at some of the basic plot points of the Illevar campaign. Although I hope people will make their own stories, I feel having and including a free campaign with the finished product might be nice for people to get used to the system.

So, without further ado, let's look at the basics of Illevar 1: Ascension.

Milanote file

I've included the link to the published milanote board for this as I assume it's a bit hard to read on the blog itself. Please feel free to check it out and let me know your thoughts.

The Plot/Beginning:

The current Emperor has secretly been funding and leading a cult to gather God Crystals in order to transform himself into a god. After touching a small fragment of a crystal as a child, the Emperor was able to glimpse the world of gods and bits of the past. He made it his goal to one day ascend from humanity to godhood in order to rule over Illevar and bring it to his vision of a perfect world.

To accomplish this, he has secretly been fueling cults, secret experiments, social uprisings, and general unrest in the world. His cult seeks out God Crystals and tries to recruit as many as they can to their ranks. The more devotion the Emperor recieves, the more powerful he will become; as gods are powered by the belief of their followers.

His main plan for ascending are: get more followers in his cult (everywhere), find a way to trap his soul forever (Charleau), create a more powerful body to house himself (Daal), and use alchemy to create a potion to prevent his brain from rotting away (Ocren).

The God Crystals are essential for storing devotion and powering the Emperor as a diety.

Okay, so villain is down. Next is how the players fit in.

The PCs start this campaign as guards at an airstrip that is under construction. While excavating and shaping the land, one worker finds a very large crystal. After touching it, he passes out. The Crystal is recognized to be valuable and word is sent to the capital for someone to come retrieve it. During the night, the worker who touched the crystal goes beserk and runs away from the camp into Festyean territory. Fearing additonal paperwork, the PCs' Commander orders them to track down and return the man to the camp.

After pursuing the individual, the players arrive at a cave filled with monsters. The man has been killed and the PCs must fight to survive the monsters. After defeating them, there is a massive earthquake. This earthquake was actaully caused by the cult attacking and murdering all of the airstrip personel. After returning to the camp, the players are told by their nearly dead commander to flee to Splinterville in Festyea to seek shelter and help from his friend. The commander recognized some of the cultists as people from within the military itself.

Taking up disguises, the PCs flee north to Festyae and things go from there.
It's all connected!

The plot gets decently meaty from here, but I don't feel like typing up everything all at once. Instead, let's do a massive overview.
  • Players go from the airstrip to Ocren(Festyae), to Charleau, to Daal, to the Emperor's Palace throughout the course of the campaign.
  • Fighting cultists, monsters, and traversing dangerous dungeons.
  • Finding clues along the way that point to the dasterdly deads of the Emperor.

At the end, the PCs will try to defeat the Emperor in his pseudo-ascended form and, if they defeat him, are granted wishes powered by the devotion stored in the giant God Crystal the Emperor was creating.

I have written a lot already in other notebooks and I am a wee bit pooped.

Thanks for reading everyone. I hope to have more posted as I complete the transition from notebooks to digital documents. It is always confusing at first trying to get across the basics of a fantasy world, but I am trying my best.

Hope you enjoyed today's blog post. You can always tune in again on Tuesdays and Fridays. Don't forget to follow me on Twitter.
