The Villain

The Big Bad:

Today we dive a bit into the main Villain of Illevar and some small details about the final leg of the story.  Work is starting for me this week and posts will likely slow down as I begin hammering out sample monsters, spells, and do some playtesting all while balancing my finances. Thanks for reading through some of these quick notes on the game, I appreciate it a lot.

I'll be honest and upfront: the villain isn't something new. It's a diabolical, rich, corrupted politician who has been destorying the world to make himself the hero that people look up to.

The Villain of Illevar is the Emperor of Illevar: Jazal Hala.

He was the scientist who created the vaccine/cure to a global pandemic, topical ain’t it, that was affecting the world. 

Riding on his popularity and fame, he rose politically to the role of Emperor, where he has remained for the past 40 years.

Jazal appears to the public in a similar fashion to how Walt Disney did in his “Uncle Walt” persona. A kind and gentle man excited for the future and for his plans of expanding and contributing to the lives of his people. He is soft spoken and, although quite old, shows remarkable strength for his age.

In reality, Jazal was the creator of the virus that ravaged and decimated the population of Illevar. He has been slowly building up a cult of worshippers around himself to power a false God-Crystal he and his team have been creating. 

How does Jazal know anything about the gods or God Realm? He gained the knowledge as a child by coming in contact with a very large God-Crystal shard. Instead of going fully insane, he instead made it his goal to ascend to the level of power he witnessed in his vision.

His worshippers are interested in elevating Jazal to a higher level of humanity through their worship, believing that after he ascends to godhood their dreams will be achieved. 

After ascending to the throne, Jazal began phase 2 of his grand scheme, positioning his followers into the high ranks of society. This was done through marriages, political favors, and giving high ranks in military and city positions to his devotees. 

His devoted followers had been working the past 30+ years to create a very tight knit and active cult that has permeated Illevar society. People missing in the night, explorers lost to the wilds they wanted to explore, mysterious deaths, and more all caused by this group.

The Villains Lair:

Deep within the volcano palace of the Emperor lies a twisted Garden of Eden styled shrine. The shrine houses the false God-Crystal and will be the final area of the game. This place is where the ascension will take place as well as the final boss fight of the campaign against The False Deity.  

The lair will be home to several powerful monsters, traps, and more to protect it from the meddling PCs.
