Illevar Nations - Part 1: Brisfall

Happy Tuesday to you all! Today we will begin to look at some of the nations that make up the world of Illevar. We're starting things off with the Capital nation and the middle area between the nations. These posts will be a bit messier than my normal ones, but I am currently looking into other resources to create a more consistant and clear method to showcase my ideas.

Brisfall - Illevar Empire Capital Nation. The nation is built surrounding the main mountain, inactive volcano, of the world.

Lindblum from FF9 is a great example for how I imagine Brisfall's Capital city.

Named after the ancient Titan Dragon, Bris, who fell to the planet after being slain by the gods, or so the story goes. When the dragon fell to the earth, his body became the land of Illevar and his head became the volcano.

Brisfall is a massive metropolis built around an inactive volcano. The volcano has been carved out and molded over the centuries into a massive multi-level residential, industrial, economic powerhouse that is the central hub of the Empire.

People from Brisfall are usually well-educated, skill based, or working class. They are more fast-paced in personality, tending to just want the facts or gist of a situation. City-folk like. Technological magic is more common than traditional magic. Artificiers’ combining spells into tools is a predominant trade and the more traditional views of magic are mocked or seen as antiquated.

Notable People:

  10. The Hive - Lower/Middle of the Volcano. This is the main HQ for the world’s military force. There is a new airport extension being constructed for a new airship.

  11. Two outer walls that surround the city. The first wall separates the main city from the farm lands. The second wall separates the farm lands from the wildness of the middle prairies.

The Lowlands - Middle Area of Illevar

The Lowlands refers to the area of land between Brisfall, Ocren, Daal, and Charleau. Mostly plains and uninhabited areas. Home to a few settlements and military bases, but not much else. Trade caravans often travel through the area. Most settlements are heavily controlled by “Lords” who own the land. There are a few nomadic tribes in the area as well.

Notable people:

  • Ghun Mercadi - Explorer and Proprietor of Fireside Inn/The Adventurer’s Guild.

  • The Maw - A mysterious warrior who is often seen in the Lowlands.

  • Garland Ironstove - Leader of the vampire and ghoul hunting group, The Iron Convent. Often referred to as the “Hungry Paladin,” given his frail looking physique.

  • Jakob Hojin - “The Toy Maker.” A mad scientist who has been terrorising towns with his strange machines.

Notable Locations:

  1. Fireside Inn - a massive tavern in the Lowlands that is home to the Adventurer’s Guild. It is located by a natural hot spring and is a haven for adventurers looking to relax or share exploits.

  2. Spidergold Mine - A former gold mine that was later infested with mysterious and dangerous giant spiders. They chased off the prospectors and have since made the mine their home.

  3. The Toy Factory - A hidden underground factory that was once used during the Age of Gods. It has since been transformed into a fortress used by Jakob Hojin.
